We will leave the streets of indian lake at the fountain….with police escort…we will run on the road behind MiMi’s restaurant…then turn sharp left onto Saundersville rd….STAY on far left…(due to low police escort we have to stay on one side of the road up & back) so we will have cones placed…follow them…we will do a TURN AROUND before the ramp off Vietnam Viets at redlight… Acme will have us a waterstop…then when u turn around to comeback…stay on same side of road!!!! So as u go on the OUT of the OUT & BACK…u will have 4 memorials facing u….then as u turn to come BACK u will have 4 other memorials facing u….please only stop at the ones facing u so this doesnt get confusing to others!!
What can u do to help? bring American flags…as many as we can get! come early to help with setup, i will be there as early as 5am…or come at least by 7am to do last min things if needed! donate gas money to Mr Gary Harris that traveled for the 2nd year here for us, the man with the Fallen black RV…he is kind enough to come & participate with us…would like to show our gratiitude! Bring an extra case of water in ur car just incase we run out!! Anyone want to donate bananas or bagels…feel free!! we will need some course monitors…forrest has some that already volunteered…also need someone at registration..by 6:30…Mrs judy wise will be in charge there. we have u the registration cards ready & new HRC info cards are being printed today!!

I have been in contact with some of the families…they are looking forward to the memorial run for their fallen family members…they all appreciate the “community” taking a moment to honor the sacrifice their loved one gave for our freedom/country!! If you would like to be a part of planning…or have some ideas…feel free to let me/Forrest/ Randy or Tom Dolan know! It takes some hard work on our part to get it all together…but every year it has been well worth it to see the families there & taking it all in!

Thanks for u all being so loyal to the Hendersonville Running Club…i know at times we all get distracted with life…but its so wonderful to know that u have all these wonderful friends that have your best interest at heart at all times! God put us all together for a reason…it strengthens my faith that people are “good” & care about one another! There is something about getting out on the road side by side with your buddies that u feel u could conquer the world…and then some! I am thankful to God for u all my friends! MOON PIE RECAP

June 20th, 2010

I signed up for the race because Sussane told me to. :) I was also under the
impression you got a fried moon pie at the end. :)
My day started at 3:30am when the alarm went off. The day before I read Forrest
facebook comment about getting there before 6am since the traffic was going to
get bad. Bob took care of breakfast, bagel, sliced and toasted with butter. I
ate the 1st half and it was time to go, we left at 3:58am since we are scared of
being late, with a long drive you never know what can happen before you get
there. We got to Bell Buckle at 5:10am, plenty of time. I drank a boost at
5:30am and got my number and chip. Saw Forrest while getting my number and he
told me he parked at the gas station for $5, I will do that next time since it
is a lot closer. Saw Skip, Charlene and her mom pull up followed by Leslie and
Leigh. We walked back into town to get their stuff and I just hanged around
watching and talking to people. We went to the start and shortly after that they
said go, so we went.
I was told this was going to be hilly, no PRs, so I got into a pace that was
comfortable and went for it. I ran with Leslie and Martha, but I knew that
wasn’t going to last long, and it didn’t I think I lost sight of them by mile 2.
By mile 1 it was already hot and I saw people walking and those rolling hills
were challenging at times. I carry my fuel belt, but made sure to get water at
every stop, put it on my head or drink a little. At mile 3, close to mile 4,
there was a hill not “the hill” but it was a good one. There was a little kid
with a water hose sprinkling and when I’m about to get wet, his mom screams at
him to stop with the water and start filling cups. It was actually kind of
funny. I was wondering at that time how I was going to make it, so I thought,
one mile at a time.
“The hill” at mile 4 was a pain. It was really steep and a pretty decent length.
After that we were home free, I thought. We went down a long downhill and into
the mile 5. This was pretty flat until past mile 7 mark, but we had 2 more
considerable size hills. One after mile 9, that one was really bad since I
thought I was done with hills. The police officer in mile 8 told me, last hill,
I guess you cannot trust them anymore. :)
When I made the last turn I was happy, I had no gas in the tank, but happy since
I was almost there, I saw Bob with the camera, Jane and Sussane’s mom. Closer to
the finish I saw the people from the HRC cheering and sticking their hands out
for High 5.
At the end I thought, this wasn’t as bad as I thought and I will come back next
year if I can. It must have been the heat messing up my judgment.
I drank my boost and ate a banana, showed and went back for the festival, but
couldn’t stomach the fried moon pies I went there for. We had lunch at the Bell
Buckle Cafe, it was great, but put your name in the list before you get hungry,
at 10:30, there was a 35 min wait, when we went in at 11:05 the wait was 1hr.
We came home after lunch and took a well deserved nap. I had a great time and
hope more people will come next year, it’s a hard race, but it is like the
marathon you are so proud to say you did it.
